Double Cross/Alliant/Promax Double at ABA Winter Nationals in Phoenix, AZ.

After a disappointing ( 2nd/4th) showing at the 2004 season opener in Reno last month, DoubleCross/Alliant/Promax headed to sunny Arizona for the ABA Winter Nationals at Debbie Kelley’s Black Mountain BMX . Considering the February weather dealt with in the past, the weather this weekend was spectacular. Every top rider in the country was in attendance and ready to do battle on this track built by the ABA just 2 weeks prior. Congratulations go to Debbie Kelley and the Black Mountain crew for getting the track into the awesome condition we have come to expect from this popular track. A light rain during quarters and semis created a slick, almost icy track that gave the spectators many memorable (or forgettable) crashes taking out some top National riders.

Double Cross/Alliant/Promax dominated the ABA Bike Shop team competition with back to back wins on Saturday and Sunday. As it would turn out, the team would need every point to stay ahead of rivals Hurricanebmx.com and Phantom/On Trac.

As for the individual results, it was doubles all over again. National #1 Cruiser, Kirk Chrisco doubled in 36-40 cruiser and took a 1st and 2nd in the expert class. Chris “Burke Alert” Burke doubled up with wins in the 19-27 expert class. Darci “Cowgirl” Williams doubled in the 17-27 girls and finished cruiser with a 1st and 2nd. Kenny “South Park” Hummel nailed the Sunday double winning 14 expert and 14 cruiser. Justin Leal made his debut in the 21-25 cruiser class this weekend bringing home the win on Sunday.

The rest of the top podium finishes went down like this, Aaron Johnson (A Pro) brought home a 3rd place check on Saturday, Julio Fierro (16x) took 2nd’s in class and cruiser on Saturday, Shayona Glynn (8 girl) with a 2nd and 3rd, Andrea Dressler (7 girl) salvaged a 3rd and 5th after crashes in both races battling for the lead, Austin Babb (6x) took a couple of 2nd’s in open and a 3rd in class, and G.I. Joe Richards finished with a 2nd in 36+ intermediate and a 3rd in 25+ mixed open.
